NBA Analyst Explains Why Kevin Durant-Warriors Reunion Might Not Happen

The general consensus was that 28 other NBA teams should be interested in obtaining one of the best scorers in NBA history when Kevin Durant asked the Brooklyn Nets for a trade last week. Franchises should all be interested, even if some don’t stand a chance. Given their history with Durant and the fact that they recently won the NBA championship without him, the Warriors were the only club that could be officially ruled out.

However, according to sources cited by Andscape’s Marc J. Spears on Sunday, not only “half the league” but also the Warriors have “interest” in Durant. That looks like a sizable group of guys for the Warriors to part with in exchange for Durant. It is, too. However, that is consistent with Brooklyn’s alleged asking price. The Warriors now have perhaps the strongest combination of young players available to get Durant, which is amusing given how improbable it would be for them to lure him back after he departed in 2019. Golden State, though, is cautiously hopeful.

Warriors and Kevin Durant reunion will be tough for the Dub Nation

“With that said, according to multiple sources in the Warriors organization, a reunion is highly unlikely. Nothing about the last three years suggests the Warriors would be willing to pay the price for a KD return. That price is likely (and reportedly) an All-Star-caliber player, young talent and a heap of draft picks,” Marcus Thompson II reported via The Athletic.

The Warriors’ current squad won the championship, and they will return the following season to defend their title with the same lineup. Above all else, this seems to be the main justification for the Golden State’s reluctance to overpay for KD.

The Warriors’ best players have spoken with Durant. The Hall of Fame-bound peers did consider a reunion in addition to catching up. Mostly, it was about how amazing it was that it was even conceivable.
