Beneath the concrete grandstands of a North Carolina NASCAR racetrack, there may have been a moonshine cave.
NASCAR Conspiracy: A Moonshine Cave Discovered Underneath The Grandstands?
According to WBTV, the find was uncovered last week at the famed North Wilkesboro Speedway, which was constructed in 1947 and has long been the subject of suspicions of a covert moonshine operation.
After a sinkhole opened, track workers discovered the secret cave while inspecting the grandstands for damage. An open space that appeared as they took out the chairs to examine the location more closely is thought to be an underground cave where bootleggers formerly brewed hooch.

Some thought it was a moonshiners cave, which would validate a long-standing conspiracy theory among tin-foil NASCAR fans that the land was originally used to both hide from the police and produce illegal moonshine.
“We haven’t found a still (yet), but we’ve found a small cave and an interior wall that would have been the perfect location to not only make illegal liquor, but to hide from the law as well,” the Speedway said in a statement after digging up the old cave.
That was a week ago. Finally, last night, North Wilkesboro made the decision to peek inside.

“When we began renovating and restoring North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2022, we’d often hear stories of how an old moonshine still was operated here on the property under the grandstands,” Steve Swift, senior vice president of operations and development at Speedway Motorsports, told the outlet.
“We don’t know how people would have gotten in and out, but as we uncover more, there’s no telling what we might find.”
