MLB Rumors: Trevor Bauer In Talks With Yankees In Order To Make A Comeback
Although the New York Yankees were unable to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto, they are still trying to strengthen their rotation around AL Cy Young winner and ace Gerrit Cole. Free agency and current NL Cy Young winner Blake Snell has been connected to them, although general manager Brian Cashman may also choose to make a deal. But there is also a name budding: Trevor Bauer!
MLB Rumors: Trevor Bauer In Talks With Yankees In Order To Make A Comeback
Pitcher Trevor Bauer, a former Cy Young winner, says he would like to return to Major League Baseball. He proposed that if the Yankees were to consider signing him, they might get help from an unusual ally in the shape of current Yankees pitcher and former UCLA colleague Gerrit Cole. The interview lasted one hour.

Cease, who turned 28 this past year, finished as the AL Cy Young runner-up one year ago. Although Chicago’s league-worst defense didn’t help him, Cease took a step back this past season, pitching 177 innings with a 4.58 ERA. Nevertheless, Cease still boasts elite stuff and two years of team control. For good reason, he’s one of the most sought-after starters available in trades.
Trevor Bauer said, “Yeah, I think he would [vouch for me]” during his interview on WFAN, referring to their rapport off the field and in their personal connection. While acknowledging the shadow cast by his settled sexual assault allegations, he emphasized not discussing them with Cole and refraining from presuming his position. Nevertheless, he believes their bond remains resilient.

He discussed his life’s “mistakes” and the steps he is taking to make amends.
“I know I’ve made mistakes. That’s kinda what I’m trying to focus on,” he told anchor Bill Hemmer. “How do I get better from the experiences that I’ve had. I’ve made mistakes in my personal life. I’m really detail-oriented when it comes to baseball and my training, but I didn’t apply the same level of scrutiny to my personal life.
“I made mistakes. I agreed to do things I shouldn’t have done. I acted carelessly. It hurt a lot of people along the way. I made things very difficult for Major League Baseball, for the Dodgers, my teammates, my friends, family, people close to me. So, I’ve done a lot of reflecting on that and made a lot of changes in my life to address that. I’m not having casual sexual relationships anymore, for example.”

There appears to be a possibility for reconciliation notwithstanding previous conflicts. Trevor Bauer openly thanked Cole on winning the 2023 AL Cy Young, acknowledging their shared past as Cy Young-winning college teammates. An important issue is raised by this olive branch: Is Trevor Bauer able to find atonement in the same league where his career was marred by failures?
According to Jon Heyman, Trevor Bauer’s organization is actively seeking a return to Major League Baseball when his legal matter has been settled. In an attempt to rekindle his major league career, his agents interacted with teams during the GM Meetings. But even after his punishment was lessened and he had a great time in Japan, there are still doubts about the 32-year-old pitcher’s durability.
