MLB Insider: Mets To Sign Manny Machado Next Year
After the 2023 season, Manny Machado said he intends to opt out of his contract with the San Diego Padres.
While Machado says he is open to signing an extension with the Padres, he added “there’s a lot of money out there” referring to the contracts signed by star players this offseason.
“As a player about to opt-out, it’s pretty good to see,” Machado said.

MLB Insider: Mets To Sign Manny Machado Next Year
The New York Mets are anticipated to compete for the services of Manny Machado, one of the most sought-after free agents in the 2023 offseason.

“I’m proud of the player he’s become and the husband he’s become,” Mets manager Buck Showalter said Friday when asked about his former Orioles star. “I’m not going there. He’s somebody else’s player, and they’re lucky to have him.”
My guess is Dodgers get Ohtani and Mets get Machado https://t.co/4D1wLvFFkm

The Mets have recently been a club in transition. The club has gone through many transformations, including front office and management changes, but there is one thing they haven’t been able to accomplish: win a World Series. Yet reports say that the Mets may chase one of baseball’s finest players once he becomes a free agency, so things might soon change.

There is no justification for seeing Machado, 30, as a consolation prize. Ohtani is undoubtedly special and exceptional, but let’s not undervalue Machado. He is a legend and would satisfy a demand. He would give running partner and slugging superstar Pete Alonso the extra middle-of-the-order bat he needs.
Manny Machado officially stated today that he plans on opting out after the season and the #Padres “know where he stands” #Padres are dishing out a ton of money to Soto, Tatis, and more and it’s unknown if there’s interest.
Teams to watch: #Mets, #Yankees, #Marlins, #Giants.

When Manny Machado becomes a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023 season, there won’t be a shortage of teams interested in signing the All-Star third baseman. Although Machado’s current team, the San Diego Padres, has made it obvious that they want to keep him, Machado has said that he will opt out of his contract at the end of the 2023 season.

The Mets will probably be big suitors for Machado. Not sure who will take over at 3rd for the Yankees next year but Machado seems unlikely ($$$). https://t.co/JyumMjg6P4

Machado, a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, is a great asset to any club due to his flexibility and offensive skill.
During his time with the Baltimore Orioles, when he built his name and rose to fame, Manny Machado collaborated with Buck Showalter. Hence, when Machado considers his future step, a meeting with his former boss might play a significant role.
