Minnesota Vikings RB Alexander Mattison fined $6,503 for twerking celebration against New York Jets
Earlier on Friday, the NFL announced that Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison has been fined a total of $6,503 for his twerking celebration against the New York Jets in Week 13. The incident took place after Mattison scored a touchdown in the second quarter as the Vikings eventually won the game 22-27.
The Vikings’ offensive star looked to celebrate in style but it seems that the league had a major problem with it. In fact, just before his celebration, Mattison appeared to fake an injury on his leg before breaking into a twerking dance in the end zone. The video clip of his celebration went viral. Why did Alexander Mattison get fined?
Mattison appeared to twerk only three times before getting up and celebrating with his teammates. This amounted to a fine of $2,167 per twerk. While some fans felt that the fine was unnecessary as the player wasn’t really being offensive to anyone, some believed that the penalty was right to be awarded as the twerk was quite vulgar to be broadcasted on national television.

The Vikings are currently leading the NFC North with 10 wins and two defeats. Kevin O’Connell’s side has all but made it to the playoffs and is looking like a serious contender to claim the NFC division with their recent performances. Minnesota will end its regular season by facing the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears over the final few weeks of the season. It will be interesting to see whether they can hold onto that top spot in the group after Week 18.
