Mike McDaniel Took A Shot At Dolphins Legend Dan Marino

Legendary quarterback Dan Marino was overheard assuring Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel that his records would be broken. The iconic scene occurred before the team’s Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium home victory over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 16.

The audience applauded Marino, 62, who was wearing his Hall of Fame blazer, in recognition of the records he established while playing for Miami. Tyreek Hill, a wide receiver for the Dolphins, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa were standing next to McDaniel when the bizarre remarks were made.

Dolphins star and Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino was photographed by HBO’s “Hard Knocks” on the sidelines prior to kickoff. After meeting with Xavien Howard, Tyreek Hill, and Tua Tagovailoa, the captains, he urged the quarterback to “go get their a–.”

As McDaniel was praising his three guys to Marino, he was behind them. Then he started to mock the previous celebrity.

“Our captains are really f—ing good players,” he said. “Look at these f—ing studs, holy s—. Yeah, Dan Marino! Dan, f— your records. We’re coming for your records, Dan.”

To surpass Marino, 62, will be quite the task given his extensive record in the Dolphins record books, which includes the most passing yards (5,084) and touchdowns (48) in a single season.

With two games remaining, it will be nearly difficult for Tagovailoa to meet either goal; but, with 4,214 passing yards this season—already the highest for a non-Marino quarterback in team history—he does have a chance to at least approach the mark.

Even if the Dolphins don’t smash any of his significant records this season, Marino did give the quarterbacks some holiday presents.

It doesn’t matter if McDaniel was kidding or not. He now has the responsibility to support his audacious claims.

At one point, Marino owned almost every passing record in the NFL and continues to hold other Dolphins records.

Despite leading the NFL in throw attempts most of the seasons, he still has the lowest career sack % in league history. McDaniel’s unwelcome pressure may have just doomed Tagovailoa.
