Mike McCarthy On Hotseat: Likely To Be Fired By Cowboys Post Playoffs?
Even though the Dallas Cowboys could surprise everyone by winning their division at the end of the 2023 regular season, Mike McCarthy’s position is still in jeopardy for 2024.
Mike McCarthy On Hotseat: Likely To Be Fired By Cowboys Post Playoffs?
The fourth-year head coach’s employment will depend on how the club finishes the season in the playoffs, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed prior to the Cowboys’ regular-season finale against the Washington Commanders.
“If the Cowboys play well in the postseason,” Schefter wrote, “McCarthy would have an excellent chance to keep his job. But if they struggle and end the season with an embarrassing loss, as has happened in each of the past two years, then some say that change could come to Dallas.”
The #Cowboys have two Hall of Fame head coaches — Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson. Yet with a victory here today, Mike McCarthy can become the first coach in franchise history to win 12 games in three consecutive seasons.

Under McCarthy, the Cowboys have had a difficult season with a 1-2 postseason record, both of which were defeats to the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have shown to be a tough opponent this season after defeating Dallas 42-10 in the past.
Dan Quinn, the defensive coordinator, is also a focus of this issue. Quinn is being considered for a head coaching position somewhere. Quinn has played a key part in turning the Cowboys defense into one of the most dynamic in the NFL.

We are not disputing the concept that McCarthy was subject to pressure to perform at a high level. That is, once more, old news. We have frequently mentioned the situations in which Jones may cut connections with us.
“Let’s revisit this after we lose 50-0 in the Wild Card round,” is an example of how we’ve said it too strongly.
However, we are unable to quote a real source from within The Star who will really state so, in part because no real source can predict with certainty what the precise threshold of expectation will be or how “failure” would be defined.
Mike McCarthy has been very successful during his time in Dallas. This will most likely be a third 12-5 season. But many of you want to part ways if we fail in the playoffs again, just to sign regurgitated coaches that are currently failing.

Did Mike McCarthy ever play football?
McCarthy played football for the Scottsdale Community College Fighting Artichokes for one season in 1984 while attending Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. After that, he moved to Baldwin City, Kansas, to attend Baker University, an NAIA institution. Tight end McCarthy made the conference team two times.
Is Mike McCarthy still with the NFL?
Since 2020, McCarthy has led Dallas as head coach. McCarthy began his NFL coaching career in 1993. His Cowboys are having an incredible season. Coming into their matchup with Philadelphia, they had won five of their previous six games. A Dallas victory may drastically alter the dynamics of the NFC East competition.
Say what you want about #Cowboys Mike McCarthy but he has brought stability to the team. He has brought the Cowboys to the playoffs for the third straight year. Last time Dallas went to playoffs three straight years was 1994-1996.
