Mets Pete Alonso Speaks On Recent Injury: “I know it looks bad but I’m feeling excellent”

Pete Alonso was the Mets’ top hitter for more than two months of this season, one of the league’s finest sluggers, and a serious contender for 60 home runs.

Now, an already-struggling Mets club must find out how to play without him through a crucial part of its schedule.

After being struck by a fastball on Wednesday in Atlanta, Alonso sustained a bone bruise and a sprain in his left wrist.

Alonso was initially regarded as day-to-day with a contusion, but the Mets subsequently revealed that X-rays on his wrist revealed nothing. Later in the game, he was spotted in the dugout with his left hand covered.

Alonso also underwent a CT scan the next morning in Atlanta before returning to New York for an MRI and other procedures, according to Mets manager Buck Showalter on Thursday (Tim Healey). These additional examinations produced the diagnosis, which allowed Alonso to be started on the IL.

He will probably require 3–4 weeks to recuperate. If Alonso develops as the Mets hope, he will make a comeback sometime between the beginning of July and the All-Star break.

On Monday night, he was holding his second yearly Night of Comedy with Special Guests at The Paramount in Huntington. He talked about his injuries and his long-term plans with the Mets there.

The Night of Comedy with Special Guests entertained spectators as it took place the day before the much anticipated Mets vs. Yankees game at Citi Field. Craig Carton and Evan Roberts of WFAN hosted the event, which raised money for the Alonso Foundation.

“I feel great,” Alonso said in a video posted by The 7 Line’s Twitter account. “I know it looks bad with the splint, but I’m feeling excellent so I’m gonna get back out there as soon as possible. That’s the number one goal. I want to be out there ASAP.”

With 22 home runs and 49 RBIs this season, the first baseman leads the National League in both categories. Alonso has made a cut.In 261 plate appearances, players hit.231/.326/.546.

“They believed in me first and it’s really special,” Alonso said when ask if he would test free agency after the 2024 season. “I love New York and right now, New York is home. I can’t predict the future but right now”

Despite having the largest payroll in baseball history, the Mets approach the weekend with a 30-33 record. They are three games behind the third and final National League wild-card slot and 8 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East.
