Mets Frustrated With Carlos Correa Over Contract as Free Agency Nears But the Deal is Still on the Table

One of baseball’s top shortstops is Carlos Correa. Love him or loathe him—and oh, do fans detest him—impossible it to deny the truth that few middle infielders are capable of what he does. One of the important free agents this offseason, Correa was about to sign a 13-year, $350 million contract before his health became an issue.

After acting quickly, Scott Boras, Correa’s agent, received a 12-year, $315 million offer from the Mets. In fact, things have gotten so terrible, one SNY insider claims that the Mets may just give up. The Mets are now in danger of giving up on securing that second trade.

Mets fed up with Carlos Correa

Carlos Correa’s surgically repaired right fibula appears to be the main area of concern for his health, and teams have noticed items in his physical that worry them. It is hard to know the specifics because medical information is confidential, but the fact that all of his success on the Show came after the 2014 ankle surgery would appear to suggest that a new issue has emerged.

According to SNY’s Andy Martino, the person he talked with is still optimistic that the deal with Carlos Correa will be completed.

“Correa-to-Mets is not dead. In fact, the source said that in the end, they still believed the sides stood a strong chance of reaching an agreement,” the source reportedly told Martino.

League insiders had been anticipating a resolution by Thursday. It’s unclear precisely what transpired to ruin the mood, but now that Correa’s camp is hearing from other clubs, the Mets are so angry that they’re considering calling off the transaction entirely. As of Friday morning, the parties were still in negotiations and making an effort to resolve the problems.
