Merciless Angel Reese Caused More Destruction. Know The Whole Story

On Wednesday night, No. 7 LSU defeated Coppin State 80-48 behind 26 points from Angel Reese, who made a triumphant return to her hometown.

After playing for two seasons at Maryland, Reese—who excelled in high school at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore—transferred to LSU, where he finished last season with a national championship. The Tigers (12-1) gained the upper hand early on and never really let it go to her.

“I knew that people were going to come out and support. They love me here, right or wrong, up and down,” Reese said. “Baltimore has always had my back.”

Since losing to Colorado in the first game of the season, LSU has not lost. Reese made his highly anticipated comeback following a four-game hiatus in late November; however, the Tigers are again missing their standout guard, Hailey Van Lith, due to foot problems. For the fourth game in a row, she missed.

Even so, LSU had more than enough to send Coppin State (3-10) its seventh straight defeat.

Angel Reese was taller than every player on the Coppin State roster by at least two inches, standing at 6-foot-3. Along with her game-high scoring total, she also finished with five steals and six rebounds. For the Tigers, Flau’jae Johnson scored an additional eighteen points.

For Coppin State, Tiffany Hammond scored 21 points, including seven 3-pointers. For a while, the game was rather competitive because of the undersized Eagles. After Last-Tear Poa made a 3-pointer, LSU went on a 10-0 run, leaving Coppin State trailing 28-20.

At the half, the score was 40–26.

“Obviously, you want to win, but it’s the No. 7 team in the country,” remarked Jermaine Woods, coach of Coppin State. I think all you left out of here and said that our young women never quit.”
