Meet Mamiko Tanaka, MLB Star Shohei Ohtani’s Wife

According to Fox Sports, Shohei Ohtani, who signed a historic 700 million dollar, 10-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers in December, posted a picture of himself and his new spouse on his Instagram Story on Thursday.

“Shohei Ohtani and his wife, basketball player Mamiko Tanaka, are heading to the Seoul Series!” Along with a screenshot of the photograph, Fox on MLB made an announcement on X.

In an Instagram post from February, the reigning American League MVP, Shohei Ohtani, had previously referenced getting married to “someone from my Native country Japan,” but he had not revealed who she was.

“She is a Japanese woman, and I don’t really feel comfortable talking about when I got married, the exact date and stuff,” Well-known for being circumspect about his private life, Ohtani spoke through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara.

“But she’s a normal Japanese woman.”

Along with being an athlete, Tanaka plays basketball.

After completing his academic studies at Tokyo Seitoku University and Waseda University, Tanaka, 27, is a 5 feet 11 inch center who played for the Fujitsu Red Wave from 2019 to 2023.

After deciding to make their relationship public in order to avoid any future complications, Ohtani, 29, who was at the Dodgers’ spring training complex in Arizona at the time, disclosed that he has known his wife for three to four years.

The Los Angeles Times said that the two-time unanimous MVP stressed that his wife supported his decision to sign with the Dodgers and said that it had “absolutely nothing to do” with his marital status.

The crosstown Angels were where Ohtani played his first six seasons in Major League Baseball.

He had earlier admitted, according to Essentially Sports, that he had met his wife in a training session. Before the Dodgers take on the San Diego Padres on March 20 to begin the regular season, they will travel to South Korea for two exhibition games in the Seoul Series.

Ohtani, who turns 30 on July 5, completed the greatest deal in sports history in December when he committed to the Dodgers through to 2033, when he becomes 39. He underwent surgery in October 2023 to repair his right ACL, and he will not be able to pitch in 2024 while he heals.
