Matt Ryan Back At Practice With Colts Ahead Of Week 10
Between Matt Ryan’s last session with the Colts and his return to practice on Thursday, a lot had changed.
The last we saw Matt Ryan headlines ran, “Sam Ehlinger will start for the remainder of the 2022 season instead of Matt Ryan”, according to the Indianapolis Colts coach Frank Reich, who made the announcement.

After Week Seven’s defeat to the Titans, Ryan was benched in favour of Sam Ehlinger, where Ryan threw back-to-back interceptions, including a pick-six, against the Titans. Just seven regular-season games after trading their former starter, Carson Wentz, to the Washington Commanders in a deal, the Colts replaced Ryan behind the centre to see if it increased their chances of winning.

Week Eight’s defeat to the Commanders resulted in the firing of offensive coordinator Marcus Brady, and Week Nine’s defeat to the Patriots resulted in the resignation of head coach Frank Reich. Ryan spent the majority of that time recovering from a shoulder injury, and on Thursday, he began working out on the field.

Ryan was observed at practice on Thursday, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. That’s good news for Ryan, who is recovering from a Grade 2 right shoulder sprain, but Sam Ehlinger will start the Raiders game on Sunday regardless of how the veteran quarterback does this week.

Jeff Saturday, the Colts’ acting head coach, has already declared that Ehlinger will start this coming weekend. Prior to his dismissal, Reich claimed that Ryan’s $17 million in injury guarantees for the following season played a role in the decision to start Ehlinger for the remainder of the season. However, Colts owner Jim Irsay stated this week that there are no objections to starting Ryan again this season.
Reporters at Colts practice saw Ryan on the field as the group continued to get ready for this weekend’s game against the Raiders.
