Mat Ishbia’s Company United Wholesale Mortgage Accused Of Misconduct

A number of former and present workers of Suns owner Mat Ishbia‘s business, United Wholesale Mortgage, have accused it of having a “locker-room culture,” alleging of “racial disparities, sexual harassment, and bullying by managers.”

Mat Ishbia’s Company United Wholesale Mortgage Accused Of Misconduct

Although “more than two dozen” former workers of the business have filed complaints, none of them allege that “Ishbia himself used racial slurs or sexually harassed employees.” Some said that “managers berated subordinates and made sexually suggestive remarks” and “contributed to what they described as a hostile workplace.”

Only a few months have passed since Ishbia finalised the agreement to acquire the Suns and their Phoenix Mercury WNBA sister team from Robert Sarver, who was fired for identical actions.

Additionally, Ishbia’s business, United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM), is currently the target of very severe accusations.

Some workers also claimed to have overheard employees making “leering and sexually offensive remarks” as well as “repeated cocaine use” among some executives and employees.

Sarah DeCiantis, chief marketing officer of UWM, described the stories as “false and misleading” and asserted that they were the product of “disgruntled individuals or a competitor pushing a false narrative to the media.”

It’s important to remember that Sarver, the previous owner of the Suns, was also charged with possessing racist and sexist traits. In fact, a subsequent NBA-commissioned report revealed “racially insensitive language; unequal treatment of employees; sex-related statements and conduct; and harsh treatment of employees that on occasion constituted bullying” by Sarver and other executives and managers within the company. As a result, he was suspended from the league for a year and fined $10 million.
