Mark Sanchez Jokes About Thomas Morstead’s ‘Butt Punt’

What Is “Butt Punt” That Everybody Is laughing About

After Thomas Morstead’s ‘butt punt’ nearly cost the Dolphins their game against the Bills, the former quarterback turned NFL pundit was all jokes.

When Miami Dolphins punter Thomas Morstead unintentionally kicked the ball into Trent Sherfield’s behind during a crucial play in their game against the Buffalo Bills, NFL fans had a little fun at his expense. Buffalo’s deficit was reduced to two points by safety when the ball rebounded into the back of the end zone.

This Thanksgiving will commemorate ten years since Mark Sanchez and the Jets popularized the term “butt fumble,” and for those of us who have appreciated the occasion throughout the past ten years, it’s been difficult to imagine a period before it. A long-awaited sequel showed up on Sunday at the conclusion of the Bills-Dolphins game.

Miami was forced to punt from its own end zone while holding onto a 21-17 lead with just over two minutes remaining. Dolphins punter Thomas Morstead attempted to get the kick-off swiftly despite Buffalo applying pressure. Instead, he kicked the ball against his teammate’s backside, causing it to ricochet out of the end zone for safety.

Mark Sanchez knew he had to stake his claim after witnessing Thomas Morstead’s late fourth-quarter punt against the Bills ricochet off of his teammate’s butt and back into his end zone, resulting in a safety for the Bills. He tweeted in jest, “Woah… get out of my lane, bro Thomas Morstead.

“Fortunately for Miami, as time ran down, its tenacious defence held Buffalo at its 41-yard line. After the safety, Morstead even somewhat atoned for himself with a thunderous 74-yard kickoff to the Buffalo 6-yard line. Only the 23 received it back. The Dolphins are currently 3-0 and are leading the tight-knit AFC East.

Following the contest, Mark Sanchez, the former New York Jets quarterback who committed the aforementioned butt fumble, made some light-hearted fun of Morstead on Twitter.
