Marcus Smart’s Fans Are Furious At ESPN For Posting His Blue Haired Photoshopped Picture

According to some sources, the Celtics acquired star big Kristaps Porzingis from the Wizards in a three-team deal that also involved the Celtics’ longstanding veteran point guard Marcus Smart being sold to the Grizzlies.

Soon after the trade was announced, ESPN SportsCenter’s social media account tweeted a picture of Smart with blue hair and a Memphis uniform that had been photo-shopped.

NBA followers who are familiar with the background of Smart’s green hair with the Celtics are aware that he colored it in honor of his late mother, who always wanted Smart to have green hair as a Celtic.

Before Game 6 of the NBA Finals against the Warriors in June, Smart explained the importance of his green hair.

In a video posted by the NBA on Twitter, Smart stated, “[My mom] always loved my hair [and] the things I was doing with it, from the braids to letting it grow out.” “And I began to colour it, which she really enjoyed.

She frequently expressed a desire to see me wear green, but because she went away, she was never able to do so. I thus said, “For her, I’m going to go ahead and dye it and see what it looks like,” as we began our playoff run. Everyone adored it, therefore it is now somewhat of here.

Smart’s mother died in 2018 after a battle with cancer at the age of 63.

Here are some of the responses to the tweet, which slammed ESPN’s social media crew for publishing the manipulated image of Smart.

“[Not gonna lie] if you know the reason to why Marcus Smart dyed his hair green this is absolutely disrespectful… media needs to do better,” one user tweeted in response to the image.

Another added, “Changing the hair color to blue is nasty knowing the true meaning of why he dyed it in the first place.”

“For those who don’t know, Marcus Smart dyed his hair green in memory of his mother, who passed away,” one user wrote. “So changing it to blue is a bit off putting.”
