ManningCast Roast Adam Schefter Before Monday Night’s Kickoff

Peyton Manning started casting disparaging remarks before the ManningCast had even kicked off.

In an interview with ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, Peyton and Eli Manning discussed how the injured situation of Geno Smith had prevented the Seattle Seahawks from naming a starting for their home game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.

Manning blamed ESPN NFL expert Adam Schefter unfairly for not knowing if Smith or Drew Lock would start at quarterback for Seattle. In addition, he played a lighthearted dig at Schefter’s conceit by acknowledging that he had no idea who would start as quarterback.

Smith is not limited by a groin ailment and is expected to play in the Week 15 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. To the bewilderment of several spectators, including the Mannings, Drew Lock, however, took the lead under center.

As Lock entered the field on Seattle’s opening drive, Peyton Manning realized he was beginning. He was shocked that Adam Schefter hadn’t revealed the information much sooner.

“Schefter couldn’t get the news, which is a shocker because Schefter knew I was going to get cut by the Colts before I knew,” Manning stated. “I don’t know how Pete Carroll kept this a secret.”

The QB uncertainty was not from a lack of trying from Schefter. The NFL insider kept his followers updated with post after post on X prior to the game about the status of Smith and Lock.

Here is Schefter clarifying his own report hours before kickoff that Smith was active for the contest.

The ESPN insider stated just before kickoff that Lock was anticipated to start.

It was unexpected that Smith was even being considered, and some writers could have thought that his activation would mean he would begin the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year.

But Lock has the responsibility of keeping Seattle alive for the playoffs. After two quarters, he has thrown just 64 passes, and the Seahawks are behind 10-3 at the half.
