“Make That 9,975-2”: Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks Become Only the 2nd Team in Last 25 Years in the NBA to Achieve This Record
In the last two minutes of regulation, Oklahoma City overcame an eight-point deficit to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 117-111 in overtime behind the 38 points from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Without Luka Doncic, the Mavericks transformed a one-point deficit after three quarters into a 15-point advantage, then the Thunder rallied from a 16-point deficit after the Dallas star returned. Although the Mavericks were the favorites to win, the Thunder remained tenacious throughout the whole game.
The Mavericks struggled to score as a result of their tough, physical style and strong defense. Dallas stopped Oklahoma City’s infiltration in the fourth quarter, and Spencer Dinwiddie began systematically attacking the rim. The Mavericks appeared to have the game in hand.

But the lapses in defense came back. The Thunder then searched deep inside themselves and discovered something amazing. To tie the score and force overtime, they went on an 18-2 run.

With 31 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists to go with his 31 points, Luka Doncic led the Mavericks in scoring. Dinwiddie scored 20 points while making 8 of 13 shots. Wood scored 11 points while sitting on the bench. With 38 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had the most scoring. The Thunder made 39 of 64 (61%) shots inside the arc to overcome their 20% long-range shooting rate.
Additionally, the Mavericks only shot 40% overall and 20% from three (8 of 40). The Mavs, who defeated the Nets in overtime in Brooklyn on Thursday, are playing in their second straight extra-time contest. The late meltdown mirrored the season-opening defeat against Phoenix.
