Mac Jones Back Injury Updates: How And when It Happened?
In Week 1’s loss to the Dolphins, Patriots quarterback Mac Jones experienced back spasms, but all indications point to his availability in Week 2. According to Chad Graff, Jones is working out on Wednesday, and head coach Bill Belichick expressed hope that Jones would be able to participate in a full practice.
Jones is expected to be eligible to play in Pittsburgh on Sunday, even if he ends up being limited.

While nursing a back injury, Patriots quarterback Mac Jones missed the post-game news conference after playing every snap of Sunday’s game.
Updates
The NFL Network reports that the results of the X-rays were negative. There is a chance Jones may play in Sunday’s Week 2 matchup against the Steelers, according to sources who spoke to the network on Monday. It is thought that Jones experienced back spasms during the game.
Scans on Patriots’ QB Mac Jones’ back came back “normal”, per source. The injury is not thought to be serious but the team will monitor and gauge how Jones is feeling this week before Sunday’s game vs. Pittsburgh.

“I want to be ready to play against Pittsburgh. I feel good,” Jones said. “I wasn’t feeling too hot after the game. I definitely feel a lot better… I just kept playing, tried to work through it. It’s football. You’re going to get hit. I’ve been hit harder before, I’ll probably get hit harder in the future.”
When Did The Injury happen?
Jones claims that the injury happened as a result of a roughing the passer call in the fourth quarter. On Sunday, he participated in every offensive action for the Patriots. Throughout the game, he took three hits and two sacks.

Moving forward, Jones’ situation will need to be monitored. The Patriots will need to exercise caution with their second-year quarterback since back ailments frequently persist and are readily aggravated.
The Patriots will have to choose between a veteran and a rookie to replace Jones if he must miss any time.
Who Is The Backup for Mac Jones?
The current backup quarterback for New England is Brian Hoyer. The veteran is in his fourth season with the Patriots, where he started his professional career in 2009.

If Jones is forced to miss time, Hoyer will probably get the first chance to replace him. During his career, he has made 39 starts and has a record of 16–23.
Hoyer last made a start in lieu of Cam Newton in 2020. In a defeat against the Chiefs, he completed 15 of 24 passes for 130 yards and one interception.
