LSU’s Greg Brooks Jr. Is Suffering From A Rare Brain Cancer
LSU defensive back Greg Brooks Jr. has been diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a rare form of brain cancer, according to the school. Brooks, who transferred from Arkansas and is in his second season with the Tigers, had surgery in September to remove a brain tumour and was awaiting the results of a biopsy.

Brooks has not played for LSU since the Tigers’ Week 2 home victory against Grambling State. Brooks was forced out of the Tigers’ win over Mississippi State due to what coach Brian Kelly termed a “medical emergency.” According to Kelly, Brooks had been suffering from vertigo over the offseason.
The Brooks family, LSU Athletics, and Our Lady of the Lake Health announced today that Greg Brooks Jr. has been diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, medulloblastoma.

“For the last three weeks, Greg has been recovering from an extensive surgery to remove a brain tumour that was located between his cerebellum and brainstem,” Our Lady of the Lake Health Chief Medical Officer Dr Catherine O’Neal told reporters.
“Greg’s speech and ability to communicate has been impacted, and although he is responsive and working daily with physical therapy, he will face months of intensive rehabilitation.”

The good news is that there is no indication of disease spread… and Dr. O’Neal says he will get treatment recommendations from “nationally recognized specialists in this specific form of brain cancer.”
“Greg has been a daily inspiration to us all,” Brooks’ family said in a statement. “He fights like a Tiger each day and continues to make incremental improvements. We have a long road ahead and are appreciative of the support from our LSU family and Tiger fans. … Greg is a warrior! Please continue to keep No. 3, and our entire family, in your prayers.”

Brooks, a fifth-year senior from Louisiana, moved to LSU from Arkansas in 2022. Last season, he started 13 of 14 games and was sixth on the team with 66 tackles.
The institution has also established a fundraising campaign for the former 4-star recruit to assist pay medical expenditures such as travel, treatment, and rehabilitation.
