Louisiana Wrestler Body Slams Coach After Winning State

A wrestler from southern Louisiana not only won the state championship this past weekend, but a video of him body-slamming his trainer immediately following the victory has gone viral.

Louisiana Wrestler Body Slams Coach After Winning State

Landon Reaux of Southside High has a lot to be happy about after winning his weight division at the LHSAA State Wrestling Championships this past weekend (2/11/23), which were held in Bossier. For the wrestling team at Southside High School, Saturday was a momentous day. At the Louisiana state finals, the programme achieved its best-ever finish in school history, and it was honoured in a very special fashion.

Just south of Lafayette in Youngsville, Louisiana, is where you’ll find Southside. It opened in 2017 and will have its first graduating class in 2020, making it the newest school in the Lafayette parish.

Without a doubt, the wrestling programme is as new as it gets. Even so, it still made a splash in the state championships!

Two wrestlers with distinctly Louisiana names—Landon Reaux and Wiley Boudreaux—won two individual state championships to help Southside finish sixth in the Division-I team rankings. While Boudreaux fights at 138 pounds, Reaux competes at 120 pounds.

To win a slot and compete for a Louisiana State Title in high school wrestling in 2022–2023, Reaux fought his way through the season. Reaux won the Division 1 Louisiana State Wrestling Championship in the 120-pound weight class after refusing to be stopped.

Following Reaux’s victory in the match, the audience as well as the internet went into a frenzy.

After their victories, both wrestlers were jubilant, and deservedly so. Boudreaux and Reaux each got to bodyslam their coach, Mike Stelly, as a way to celebrate.

No, I mean it.

Reaux and Boudreaux rushed over to Stelly, who was sporting a suit and tie, scooped him up, and smashed him to the ground after each of their separate victories. The crowd, who was obviously unaware of what was going on, noisily gasped.

Technically the move is called a lat drop, and Reaux seems to execute it perfectly.

Obviously the two had talked about it before hand and it has made for a pretty incredible moment in High School sports.

Southside High’s Wiley Boudreaux also took home the State Title for the 138lb weight class.
