‘Lotta bark, no bite’ – Netherlands forward Memphis Depay brutally mocks Charles Barkley after USMNT crash out of Qatar World Cup
The Netherlands beat the United States National Football Team 3-1 in the last 16 of the 2022 Qatar World Cup on Saturday. And Memphis Depay, who scored in the win for the Dutch, wasted no time in trolling NBA legend Charles Barkley. The Barcelona forward took to Twitter after the game and wrote, “Lotta Bark, no bite” with a photo of Barkley.
Why did Memphis Depay troll Charles Barkley on social media?
To be fair to Depay, Barkley had hyped the game in favor of the USMNT and before the game, claimed that the Americans would easily get past the Dutch in the round of 16 football game. The ex-NBA star began the trash talk ahead of the World Cup game and said, “We opening up a can of whoop-a**. I guarantee the Netherlands is in trouble.”

The sports analyst continued, “I want Spain, I want Brazil, I want Germany, I want France – oh, they got that boy Kylian Mbappe over there in France, he ain’t no joke. But we going to beat the Netherlands.”
However, Depay and the Dutch had the last laugh as they eliminated the USMNT from the World Cup 2022. The Netherlands will now take on Argentina and Lionel Messi in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

Nonetheless, the USA should be proud of their achievement in the World Cup, having made it to the round of 16. Gregg Berhalter’s side opened their group-stage campaign with a 1-1 draw against Wales before holding England to a stalemate in their second game. Their final group game saw the USMNT beat Iran 1-0 to clinch second place in Group B and qualify for the knockouts.

The elimination in the last 16 against the Dutch is bound to serve as another learning and the Americans will be hoping to come back stronger in the 2026 edition of the World Cup.
