The Los Angeles Dodgers’ choice to pay tribute to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence before their Pride Night game on June 16 has drawn a lot of criticism. Their star pitcher, Clayton Kershaw, disagrees with the choice.

The Texas native, who has won the Cy Young Award three times, also has the lowest ERA of any starter who has thrown more than 700 innings. Additionally, Don Sutton’s position as the franchise’s all-time leader in strikeouts was replaced by Clayton Kershaw last year.
The seasoned pitcher explained that it was in retaliation to the group’s choice to recognize the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

“I think we were always going to do Christian Faith Day this year, but I think the timing of our announcement was sped up,” Kershaw told the Los Angeles Times on Monday. “Picking a date and doing those different things was part of it as well. Yes, it was in response to the highlighting of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence [by the Dodgers].”

Devout Christian Clayton Kershaw recently went on record to state that he disagrees with his team’s choice, making headlines in the process. Kershaw recently reiterated his position, telling the LA Times:
“I don’t agree with making fun of other people’s religions, it has nothing to do with anything other than that. I just don’t think that, no matter what religion you are, you should make fun of somebody else’s religion. So that’s something that I definitely don’t agree with.”

As a result of his team’s decision to go forward with the pre-game honoring of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Kershaw made the choice to promote an occasion that was more in line with his principles.
The group’s portrayal of Christianity in the films was “tough” to see, according to Kershaw, who also claimed that the proclamation for Christian Faith and Family Day was his idea.

“As a team between my wife and I and different people that I respect, we talked a lot about the right response to this,” Kershaw said. “It’s never an easy thing, because it felt like it elicited a response.”
