During the annual Gym 101, Drayton, a freshman at Louisiana State University (LSU), gave a remarkable performance that demonstrated his ability to perform under duress. Drayton is a four-time Olympic gold medallist.

Prior to the 2024 season, the LSU gymnasts showcased 50 routines at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Friday, January 5. Impressions were high.
Drayton only entered the competition as a last-minute substitute for one of her injured teammates, but she made a strong impression in her first bars performance, finishing with a score of 9.925 to help LSU defeat Ohio State.

He remarked, “We got to see a freshman do something spectacular,” according to NOLA. “Amari came through for us. It was also a brand new vault she’d never done [scoring another 9.925] and she didn’t know she was going in until after beam and got a 9.925.”
