LIV Golf Rules, How It Differs From PGA?

A massive shift has been observed in the Professional Golfers’ Association. The golfers are deflecting from PGA to LIV Golf. LIV Golf is a tour financially aided by the sovereign of Saudi Arabia, which is currently valued at $600 Billion.  This series got its name from LIV from the Roman number 54, which means the minimum score one has to have on a par 72 course.

After this week’s events, here are where LIV Golf will play the rest of its season:

  • New Jersey — Trump National Golf Club Bedminster: July 29-31
  • Boston — The International: Sept. 2-4
  • Chicago — Rich Harvest Farms: Sept. 16-18
  • Bangkok, Thailand — Stone Hill: Oct. 7-9
  • Jeddah, Saudi Arabia — Royal Greens Golf & Country Club: Oct. 14-16
  • Miami — Trump National Doral: Oct. 28-30

How Is It Diffrent From PGA?

The number of holes played in a tournament, the method for making cuts, and the manner in which they are played are the three main areas where the Saudi league and PGA Tour have different rules.

With 54-hole shotgun starts for all LIV Golf competitions, there are 18 less holes than on the PGA Tour and everyone is on the course at the same time.

The LIV Golf no-cut rule is another distinction. The fact that there is no 36-hole cut after round two means that each player in the field will make some money.

The most obvious distinction is certainly the team component. Because golfers compete against one another individually on the PGA Tour, it is not a team sport outside of the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup.

Although there is an individual component to these events, the team component is another revenue stream for them. Before each tournament, captains select players to complete their foursomes and earn points based on their performance. At the end of it all, a champion will be chosen for both the individual and the team.

The teams will play one another in an elimination-style bracket until two remain, and those two will fight for a $50 million total prize pool. The bracket for the championship will be at the matchplay PGA Tour tournament. The $30 million in prizes up for grabs in the individual competition.

The method that golfers start each round varies greatly between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour. In order to minimize overlap, the field on the PGA Tour either begins on the same hole or on two distinct holes at staggered tee times. Golfers will start at the same time but from different tees because LIV Golf uses shotgun starts.
