Starting pitchers Max Scherzer, 38, and Justin Verlander, 40, will get enormous compensation from the New York Mets; the two previous Cy Young winners will each make $43.3 million this season.
The five-year Detroit Tigers teammates Verlander and Scherzer were reunited with the help of Mets owner and millionaire Steve Cohen. In the offseason, the Mets signed Verlander to a two-year contract worth $86.6 million and Scherzer to a three-year contract worth $130 million.

Before Verlander caught up, Scherzer had the record for the largest yearly average deal in baseball history ($43.3 million).
The record for average yearly value set by Gerrit Cole and the crosstown New York Yankees ($36 million) was smashed by Scerhzer’s agreement.

It would bring the two legendary athletes back to Los Angeles with immense pleasure. The ranking of the Major League pitchers who earn the highest salaries may also be impacted by this choice.
However, Jacob deGrom, who is ranked third on this list, inked a hefty 5-year, $185,000,000 contract with the Texas Rangers, which includes a guaranteed $185,000,000 and an average salary of $37,000,000 year. In 2024, he will receive a base salary of $40,000,000, for a total compensation of $40,000,000.
