Lions Fans Lash Out On Mike Tirico For His ‘Asterisk’ Comment After Win Against Chiefs

After his postgame remarks regarding the Detroit Lions’ shocking victory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday went viral, NFL fans criticized NBC’s Mike Tirico for them.

The fact that Kansas City was without their best targets, star tight end Travis Kelce and star defensive lineman Chris Jones (Jones due to a contract disagreement and Kelce due to a knee injury), meant that Detroit’s victory would be marked with an asterisk.

“This (win) has an asterisk because of no Chris Jones and no Travis Kelce,” Tirico begins to explain, finishing by saying that the way in which the Lions finished last season shows that Thursday’s win in the home of the defending Super Bowl champs is no fluke.

Tirico, NBC’s top voice and, before that, the “Monday Night Football” voice, has spent more than 20 years residing in southeast Michigan. He serves as an ambassador for the Rocket Mortgage Classic golf event and is open about his ardent appreciation for all things related to the Great Lakes State, which frequently comes over in his reporting.

That offended many people in the NFL, diminishing what was one of the Lions’ team’s best victories in a long time.

“Mike Tiriko gives the Lions an asterisk for no Kelce or Jones. Weird, when Brady lost Edelman and Hightower for all 2017 and went on to throw for a Record 505 yards in the Super Bowl, he “Lost to a backup”. Oh, no Butler either. Oh, and the refs legislated the rules on the fly.” said one user.

“Mike Tirico saying the Lions win over the Chiefs gets an asterisk lol bruh cmon THE DEFENDING CHAMPS don’t get asterisks in a ONE POINT GAME” another user said.

“Mike Tirico really said this Lions win is an asterisk because there was no Chris Jones and Travis Kelce…. Chiefs literally have Patrick Mahomes… I’m sick.” Added another.

Seems like Lions fans have been extremely angered by the comment and why not?
