Le’Veon Bell Criticized Jets’ Former HC Adam Gase For ‘Confusing’ Sam Darnold

Le’Veon Bell Criticized Jets’ Former HC Adam Gase For ‘Confusing’ Sam Darnold

Bell joined co-hosts Kevin Adams and “Jersey Jerry” on the “STEEL HERE” Barstool Sports podcast on May 26 to talk about his time playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite this, the former star RB insisted on bringing up Gase and the Jets throughout the conversation.

In 2013, Bell made his NFL debut in a Week 4 game against the Minnesota Vikings. With 16 carries for 57 yards and two scores, he made his presence felt. He never turned around. With 244 carries, 860 yards, and eight touchdowns in 13 games, the running back went on to enjoy a stellar rookie season. Bell would go on to become without a doubt the best running back in the NFL, so this was only the beginning.

Bell, who remained quiet throughout his career’s highs and lows, at last answered some pressing queries. Everyone naturally wants to know if Bell regrets leaving Pittsburgh and what was a Hall of Fame career in the making.

Bell had the impression that all coaches were straightforward and honest based on his interactions with Tomlin and Mark Dantonio, the head coach of Michigan State. Upon arrival in New York, that expectation was flipped upside down.

“Bro, we get to New York and that’s when I instantly find out [that] head coaches make a huge difference — like, a huge difference,” Bell told the show as both co-hosts laughed. “As soon as I get to New York, I find that out like the first week.”

Bell criticized his former head coach, Adam Gase, claiming that Mike Tomlin would have led the Jets to a nine-game winning season in 2019. Instead, the Jets ended 7-10, but the season was effectively over following their awful 1-7 start.

Bell went on to say that quarterback Sam Darnold was “confused” by Gase and that he “don’t even know like the actual line’s protections.” The three-time Pro Bowl running back also referred to Gase as a “terrible” play-caller.

The Jets organization under Gase was utterly dysfunctional, but it doesn’t mean Bell wasn’t helpful in New York. Fans will only be relieved that the franchise has progressed to greater and better things for the time being.
