LeBron James Frustrated With Lakers Performance Against Warriors

LeBron James was dissatisfied with the alternatives available to him as the Los Angeles Lakers lost their inaugural NBA match, 123-109, to the Golden State Warriors.

LeBron James Frustrated With Lakers Performance Against Warriors

The Los Angeles Lakers 2022–23 season opener didn’t exactly go smoothly. The game grew out of control in the third quarter after staying relatively close during the first half, leading to a defeat of 123-109.

LeBron James concluded the game with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists to open the 20th season of his NBA career, but it is evident that his performance was insufficient as the Lakers fell behind by as many as 27 points.

On the first night of the regular season, the 37-year-old showed that age is just a number by scoring 31 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, narrowly missing out on a triple-double. Although Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook also made significant contributions on the floor, there was a lack of effort elsewhere.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors as usual, but despite his 33 points, no one was really paying attention to him since it was yet another heroic team effort. James is already irritated because it’s obvious why they are the NBA champions and why the Lakers didn’t even qualify for the playoffs last season.

Following the game, James was candid in his assessment of the shortcomings that could prove to be an issue for the team throughout the season.

“To be completely honest, we’re not a team that’s constructed of great shooting,” James said of the Lakers’ 10-of-40 showing from beyond the arc. It’s worth noting that of those 40 attempts, 37 were considered to be open or wide open, per NBA.com Stats, which adds more staggering context to the 25.0 per cent efficiency.

“It’s not like we’re sitting here with a lot of lasers on our team, but that doesn’t deter us from still trying to get great shots,” James continued. “When you get those opportunities, you take them, but we’re not sitting here with a bunch of 40-plus [per cent] career 3-point shooting guys.”

LeBron James said, “Let’s keep it a dollar. It would be like a football squad.” “In a football analogy, imagine a group of players who were positioned underneath route runners and were perplexed as to why the quarterback was failing to complete passes of at least 20 yards down the field. The team is set up in that way. Despite this, you can still succeed. Brady, [Tom] did it.”

Although the Brady comparison might be a stretch, James and his group of unsuccessful shooters will try to find a different route to success. If it doesn’t work, the group might start looking beyond the roster for a remedy right away.

While it creates drama, LeBron James certainly isn’t wrong, and if someone is going to get a message through to this team, he’s the man that’s going to accomplish it.
