Lamar Jackson Won’t Report For Ravens’ Voluntary Workout
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Lamar Jackson won’t be there for the start of offseason practice because of a contract dispute with the Ravens. It was anticipated that the player with a non-exclusive franchise tag would skip the workouts since Jackson is unsigned and they are voluntary.
Lamar Jackson Won’t Report For Ravens’ Voluntary Workout
Jackson is most likely not going to be in the area of the Ravens’ training facility until the numbers are known and a contract is finalized.
The possibility of injury is just one of the reasons why unsigned athletes avoid the field. Unsigned players can show up and will probably want a letter of protection so that the team will be responsible for any injuries they sustain.
Update: The #Ravens have offered QB Lamar Jackson a deal that includes $200 million guaranteed per @RapSheet on the @PatMcAfeeShow https://t.co/G9ROl4RzN9 pic.twitter.com/ALFtocInMX

There is an argument to be made that it is a better move for a player to participate in the optional team activities as players normally work out whether it is inside the facility or not. In this manner, they can still be compensated if the damage does occur.

Jackson may not even be with the team next season. The team’s choice of a non-exclusive franchise tag allows clubs to temporarily retain Jackson at a guaranteed $32.4 million, but the 25-year-old is still open to contract negotiations. The organization decided against using an exclusive tag, which would have prevented the quarterback from meeting with any other teams and guaranteed the QB $45 million.

On March 27, Jackson posted on social media that he had asked the team for a trade. The two sides’ relationship has been strained, and the trade request was another evidence that No. 8 is prepared to leave Baltimore.
Since the Ravens’ decision on May 7, teams have not expressed enough interest for him to move to a another city. Guaranteed money is probably becoming old for teams.

Jackson may still decide to sit out the 2023 campaign, but doing so would be hazardous for the quarterback.
