Lamar Jackson Calls Out Adam Schefter Report About $200 Million Ravens Offer

Lamar Jackson turned to social media on Tuesday to share his thoughts on the continuing discussions surrounding a long-term contract extension and some of the related reporting after being given the non-exclusive franchise tag by the Ravens last week.

Lamar Jackson Calls Out Adam Schefter Report About $200 Million Ravens Offer

Jackson took to Twitter to refute a claim made by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on a recent episode of The Adam Schefter Podcast that Baltimore’s front office had offered him $200 million guaranteed in a proposed deal last September. Jackson stands to earn $32.416 million guaranteed if he plays on the franchise tag in 2023. The former MVP swiftly replied to the story with a GIF that appeared to express his viewpoints on the subject unequivocally.

But Jackson didn’t stop there. His next tweet said, “133/3 years guaranteed… but I need an agent?” He then carried on tweeting. suggesting that the offer he had gotten was far less than what Schefter had stated. The fact that the offer came from the Ravens was not made clear by Jackson.

As stated in Schefter’s whole response on the programme, Jackson was “offered $133 million due at signing” by the Ravens. The ESPN insider later revealed, though, that the contract’s total worth may have reached $200 million if it had included “springing guarantees” and injury guarantees.

Jackson had one final apparent message for those who have reported on his discussions over the past three months, though it’s unclear if he agreed with that specific breakdown of the offer.

Jeremy Fowler reported in February that all of the quarterback’s counter-offers sought a fully guaranteed contract that was greater than the record-breaking deal Deshaun Watson signed with the Browns in March 2022. ESPN had previously reported that the Ravens offered Jackson a five-year, $250 million contract with $133 million guaranteed last September. With Cleveland, Watson agreed to a five-year deal with $230 million guaranteed, the highest amount ever guaranteed in an NFL contract.

Since Baltimore applied the franchise tag to Jackson, the two parties may still work out a long-term contract, but Jackson is still free to talk to other teams and potentially sign an offer sheet with another organisation. The decision to keep or trade the former first-round pick would then be up to Baltimore.
