Each club changes their names for the celebrations as part of the Fun Cup, which, according to the MiLB website, comprises of activities that “embrace the culture and values that resonate most” with Hispanics in areas with minor league teams.
The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were once known as the Temblores, which means “earthquakes” in the series.
In honor of the recognizable jackets that Mariachi players wear, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes announced on Thursday that they will take on the role of “Chaquetas” for the three-event Copa de la Diversión series.

Although the Spanish word “chaqueta” technically means “jacket,” it is also a colloquial term for masturbating.
Although the management of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ single-A minor league team appeared to be unaware of the error prior to the announcement, supporters immediately pointed out the word’s dual meaning on social media.
For the Fun Cup, the Dodgers’ single-A affiliate, the Chaquetas, will be rebranding. The word “chaquetas” is Spanish for “jackets,” and the name pays homage to the mariachi band culture of Southern California while also extending “beyond those who share the genre’s cultural background.” The announcement was made on social media on Thursday.
New organization, same wipeout stuff for Jackson Ferris.

The Quakes swiftly removed all of their announcements pertaining to the name and retreated, reapplying the name after undergoing further scrutiny.
“We were immediately concerned: Have we made an irreversible mistake here?” Executive vice president and general manager of the Quakes, Grant Riddle, told the Los Angeles Times on Friday.
After a few hours, the squad and everyone involved made the courageous choice to stand by their decision to play as the Chaquetas and reposted the statement.

The team release said, “Mariachi music is a treasured art form in Southern California.”
After considering several options, team officials finally decided on Chaquetas because Mariachi had already been taken by another team, according to the Times. Quakes executive vice president and general manager Grant Riddle told the L.A. Times that the name was “vetted” by the MLB and leaders of the local Hispanic community.
