LA Chargers placekicker Matt Gay hits out at NFL over his pants being too short

After receiving a citation from the NFL for his pants being too short, Chargers star Matt Gay criticized the league on Twitter.

The National Football League has been known to relax its policies on uniforms over the years, going so far as to allow teams to wear different helmets for the current season. Despite this, the league appears to continue to have a highly rigid policy about the length of players’ pants.

On Friday, Matt Gay tweeted a couple of images of himself in his NFL outfit and called out the league for its rule about the length of players’ pants. You might have noticed that his pants appear to be a little long and uncomfortably fitting, but it appears that this is the way the NFL wants players, particularly kickers, to wear them.

Gay gives the impression in his tweet that he was fined $5,000 for the length of his pants when he played against the Bills in the season opener.

In addition to that, he was not the only one. The Texans’ Jerry Hughes was also given a penalty for his pants not being worn “over the full knee area,” as required by the rule.

According to the letter that he got, it is forbidden to wear pants that are rolled up or shortened in any way.

On game days, someone who is gay wears shorter pants, which undoubtedly comes in handy when it’s time to shoot field goals and extra points. This image clearly demonstrates that his pants have the appearance of being shorts.

Jalen Ramsey and David Long Jr. defended their kicker, questioning why the NFL is so rigid about pants, of all things, as they did so.
