Before making his speech on Monday, Jason Kelce spent four years crafting it, as Kylie Kelce revealed in an intriguing bit of information about her husband’s NFL retirement speech. Engaging with the media in her hometown of Philadelphia, Kylie revealed that she had heard the statement prior to its official distribution and conveyed her respect for its potency and how it encapsulated his 13-year NFL career.

“I think I was the only one that had heard the speech before he went into it,” she said. “I think it was just a perfect summary of 13 years. It was an incredible run he had as a player in the NFL. I’ve heard multiple versions over the last four years. This was a completely different version. I think every year he sort of started from scratch as to what was sitting on the surface,” she continued. “But when he said that he was contemplating retirement for years, he means for years.”

Not only did Kelce’s wife cry during the ceremony, but his brother Travis also clearly broke down in tears as a result of his speech. When Jason praised Travis for his important contribution to his profession, both of them experienced an emotional moment. Donna, their mother, was visibly moved as well throughout the moving retirement speech.

Jason’s emotional state was also apparent, as he found it difficult to contain his tears during the 40-minute speech. He honored his wife and the city of Philadelphia, emphasizing how important it was to meet Kylie during a 2014 Philadelphia Eagles Christmas Party.
In the NFL, Jason was the highest-paid center.
After indicating that he would retire after the 2021 season, Kelce ultimately made the decision to play on and inked a $14 million one-year contract with the Eagles, making him the highest-paid center in the entire NFL.

Among the many honors that Kelce’s distinguished career has produced are six First-team All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowl berths. With just four other centers in NFL history to his credit who have made it to the Hall of Fame, his accomplishments put him in an elite category. In addition, Kelce had a part in the Eagles’ historic triumph over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.
