Kurt Warner: Rams QB Baker Mayfield has ‘found the right place’

The quarterback Baker Mayfield has played better in his three games with the Los Angeles Rams than he ever did in his seven games with the Carolina Panthers.

Mayfield is receiving high praise from many, including two-time NFL MVP Kurt Warner, after leading the Rams to two victories in as many weeks and coming off a nearly flawless performance against the Denver Broncos last week.

For the Los Angeles Rams, Baker Mayfield has only started a small number of games at centre. Even so, Kurt Warner was able to recognise that Baker Mayfield might finally be at the right place.

Kurt Warner stated that the key for Mayfield is finding a system that plays to his talents as a quarterback in a recent YouTube video where he analyses film.

“It’s about finding the right place,” the Super Bowl XXIV champ said in the video. “He bounces around to a couple of places and it’s not a right fit.”

“He’s found himself in a place that plays to his strengths. Even though he has only been there a short period of time, what they do makes it easier for a quarterback like Baker Mayfield.”

In the win over Denver, Mayfield completed 24-of-28 passes for 230 yards, two touchdowns and a 124.7 passer rating.

In his three appearances with L.A., Mayfield has thrown for 571 yards and four touchdowns while completing 69% of his passes.

Kurt Warner claims that Mayfield performs best when the quarterback’s decision-making process is literally laid out for him. You go to the next option in the specified order if one isn’t available.

The quarterback rating of Mayfield has increased since moving to Los Angeles. Through seven games with the Carolina Panthers, it increased to 74.4; with the Rams, it increased to 95.2.

The Rams’ win total hasn’t increased as a result, though. With Mayfield as their starter, the defending Super Bowl champions have a 1-2 record.

They play the Seahawks this weekend, who with a victory and some assistance from the Detroit Lions would like to go to the postseason.
