Know Everything About Arrowhead Stadium: Capacity, History & Facts
Arrowhead Stadium is a football stadium located in Kansas City, Missouri. It is primarily the home stadium of the National Football League’s (NFL) Kansas City Chiefs. Following a naming rights agreement with GEHA and the Chiefs, the stadium has been officially titled GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium (pronounced G.E.H.A.) since March 2021.
The arrangement began with the start of the 2021 season and will terminate with the expiry of the Chiefs’ and Royals’ leases with the stadium’s owner, the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, in January 2031.
It is part of the Truman Sports Complex, which also includes Kauffman Stadium, home of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Kansas City Royals. Arrowhead Stadium seats 76,416 people, making it the 24th-largest stadium in the United States and the fourth-largest NFL stadium.

It is also the largest sports complex in Missouri in terms of capacity. In 2010, a $375 million restoration was completed. The stadium is set to host FIFA World Cup events in 2026 and has already held college football games as well as other soccer games.
In the mid-1960s, the City of Kansas City investigated potential locations for a new stadium, resulting in the formation of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority. Due to architectural and seating capacity concerns, the original plans for a multipurpose stadium were discarded, and two new stadiums were erected for baseball and football.

Arrowhead Stadium, which opened in 1972, was built as a football-only venue with excellent sightlines and 79,000 seats divided into three decks. The stadium underwent various alterations, including renovations from 2007 to 2010, which reduced the total capacity to 76,416. Arrowhead Stadium is noted for its boisterous atmosphere and excellent tailgating.
History
When the Dallas Texans of the American Football League (AFL) relocated to Kansas City and became the Chiefs in 1963, they played their home games at Municipal Stadium. They initially shared the stadium with the Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Athletics, but the Athletics departed to Oakland, California, following the 1967 season, and the expansion Kansas City Royals were added in 1969.
Municipal Stadium, which was erected in 1923 and mainly renovated in 1955, sat roughly 35,000 people for football, but as part of the AFL-NFL merger announced in 1966, NFL venues would be needed to accommodate at least 50,000 people. Since the City of Kansas City was unable to find a suitable location for a new stadium, Jackson County stepped in and offered a location on the eastern edge of Kansas City near the interchange of Interstate 70 and Interstate 435.
The NFL kicked off the 2023 season last night with a rendition of the so-called 'Black national anthem', and fans in Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium were NOT pleased, BOOING the divisive song.
Then, they ERUPTED in applause for the National Anthem! …https://t.co/7i3HCT7MiJ
