“Knicks Would Overpay For Him”: NBA Analyst Believes Knicks Could Go Big on Anthony Davis in the Upcoming Off-Season

Last season, New York had the best defense in the NBA, winning head coach Mike D’Antoni Coach of the Year accolades in his first season at Madison Square Garden. In seven of his ten seasons as an NBA head coach, Tom Thibodeau’s teams have had top-10 scoring defenses. However, this season, they failed to qualify for the playoffs and are hoping to land big names such as Anthony Davis in the summer.

To make consecutive postseason appearances for the first time in almost a decade, the Knicks brought back nine of their top 12 players in terms of minutes per game from their 2020-21 rotation.

Last summer, the reigning Most Improved Player Award winner, point guard Julius Randle, inked a four-year, $117 million contract, while Sixth Man of the Year candidate Derrick Rose, center Nerlens Noel, and Alec Burks also earned increases. The team signed guard Evan Fournier, who was coming off a career-high 41.3 percent 3-point shooting, to a four-year, $78 million deal, as well as Bronx native Kemba Walker to a two-year, $17.9 million deal.

Bill Simmons feels the Knicks would overpay for Anthony Davis

Bill Simmons believes if the Los Angeles Lakers were to trade Anthony Davis, the New York Knicks would be prepared to overpay to get him.

“I think the Knicks would overpay for him,” Simmons said of Davis. “I think the Knicks are ready to dive in this summer.”

Davis is now in the midst of his second straight season of restricted availability due to ailments. His absence this season is one of the primary reasons the Lakers are in serious danger of missing the playoffs. Davis’ ability to stay healthy in the future, as well as the fact that he will turn 30 in March, might be used as justifications for the Lakers to move him.

After taking the Knicks to the playoffs last season, head coach Tom Thibodeau has had a difficult 2021-22 season. Given the team’s problems this season, it appears like New York will have a busy summer.
