Kirk Cousins Names A QB He Thinks Is Really Underrated

There isn’t really much of a dispute these days about Patrick Mahomes being the best quarterback in the NFL right now, as practically everyone would probably agree. The answer isn’t as straightforward, though, when it comes to the NFL quarterback who is most underappreciated. Kirk Cousins names the one he thinks is underrated!

On Thursday, a video of a joint interview with the show’s participants surfaced. Unless they all wore the exact same outfits they did for the premiere for the additional session, it appears like it was recorded at the same time as the premiere.

Marcus Mariota, Kirk Cousins, and Patrick Mahomes all spoke on various subjects. The topic of the NFL quarterback who is most underappreciated was up around five minutes in.

Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota concurred that Kirk Cousins is the NFL’s most underestimated quarterback in an eight-minute clip released on Thursday by the creators of the fantastic Quarterback series.

So who is Cousins’ most underrated quarterback?

“I kind of always scratch my head at the Jimmy Garoppolo situation in San Francisco, because I know how hard it is to win in this league,” Cousins said. “And it seems like every time he goes out there, they win. And then, they’re moving on from him or trying to draft somebody and trade up, and I’m thinking, ‘It’s pretty hard to win double-digit games in this league and that’s all they seem to do when the plays.’ So obviously  I don’t know all that goes on there, but if he does it again with the Raiders, at some point, this guy’s just a winner.”

“I hope he doesn’t do it again with the Raiders,” Mahomes quipped. “No offence.”

Football fans were rather shocked by the 49ers’ choice to replace Garoppolo two years ago. The 9ers had recently won a Super Bowl under Jimmy G’s leadership when they made the trade up to get Trey Lance.

The year after that run, the club had injury problems, but they still looked like they were equipped to compete, and they have ever since.

The 49ers made it back to the NFC Championship Game in 2022 with Brock Purdy after Garoppolo was hurt in 2021 under his leadership.

Given that Cousins and Garoppolo continue to be associated with one another as a result of their shared experience in Washington, it is also odd to hear Cousins criticize Shanahan’s handling of Garoppolo. Before being persuaded to make a trade for Garoppolo, Shanahan planned to sign Cousins as free agency in 2018.
