Kim Mulkey’s Push For LSU’s Physicality Results In Player’s Brother’s Arrest

Although Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso got into a heated exchange early in the first quarter of the LSU Tigers’ SEC Tournament Championship loss to the undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks, head coach Kim Mulkey felt that the game was not violent enough.

After the first quarter, Mulkey, 61, lost her temper with a reporter on the sidelines, stating that she did not believe the competition lacked physicality and that she would eventually get her wish.

“Come on now,” Kim Mulkey responded. “I don’t think it’s been physical this tournament. What do you want me to say? I think we did fine. The same thing happened at our place. We had a lead then gave up 3s at the end of the quarter. We just gave up 3s, had two turnovers, gave up two free throws, and gave up a bucket.

“That’s how good teams beat you. They take advantage of opportunities. We come out. We take the lead and then we have turnover at the end of the quarter and they go up [and take] a three-point lead. The same thing happened in Baton Rouge.”

A brother of Flau’Jae Johnson was arrested.

Two minutes remained in the fourth quarter when LSU’s Flau’Jae Johnson fell to the ground after being shoved by Cardoso, setting off a violent sequence that ended the game.

Players from both sides began shoving one another, and in an attempt to protect his sister, Johnson’s brother leaped from the bleachers onto the court.

When police officers took over, they placed him in handcuffs and made him an arrest. Finally, South Carolina won the championship.
