Kim Mulkey’s encounter with MTSU standout gains widespread attention
Head coach of the LSU Tigers Kim Mulkey gained notoriety on Sunday following her side’s victory over the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders. In an embarrassing move, Mulkey attempted to comfort Savannah Wheeler, a standout player on the losing team.
Mulkey, 61, gripped the crying Wheeler’s face a bit too firmly during LSU’s 83-56 victory that secured a Sweet 16 trip. Social media users quickly made the exchange into a meme.

Wheeler’s team led 36–32 at the half thanks to her strong first-half play, but LSU fired back in the third quarter to take the lead and momentum.
It was evident that Mulkey was merely telling Wheeler how well she had performed and to keep her head up as an NCAA standout going forward.
Savannah Wheeler shares the scoring lead for the whole game.
Wheeler outperformed all of her teammates with a team-high 21 points and five assists. In addition, she pulled down seven rebounds.

In addition, Flau’Jae Johnson of LSU scored 21 points to share the game-high scoring total with Wheeler.
Though Angel Reese also played a significant role in the outcome, it was Johnson’s contribution in the second half that ignited LSU’s ultimate convincing victory.
