Khamzat Chimaev’s Coach ‘Wasn’t Satisfied at All’ With His UFC 273 Performance Against Gilbert Burns

Khamzat Chimaev showed the combat sports world that he has the goods to be a legitimate title challenger with his performance at UFC 273. ‘Borz’ faced off against Gilbert Burns and put on a show for the fans right from the opening bell to the conclusion of the fight. Moreover, this fight saw Chimaev absorb the most amount of punishment he’s ever endured in an MMA fight thus far in his career.

Gilbert Burns sent Chimaev to his knees on the canvas with a good shot coming in and also tagged him with vicious right hands on several occasions. ‘Borz’ has been a relentless force, and it was a novel sight to see him getting cut and bruised in a fight. Chimaev recently spoke to ‘Smesh Bros’ on the YouTube channel and revealed what his coaches thought of his overall performance.

Did Khamzat Chimaev only show 30% of his skill set at UFC 273?

‘Borz’ disclosed to fans that his coaches were far from impressed with the performance he showcased at UFC 273. As outlined by his coaching staff over at Allstar Training Center, Chimaev deviated from the game plan and ended up brawling with Burns.

This intense firefight led to Chimaev getting hurt on the feet and it also exposed the fact that he didn’t want to go to the ground with Burns. Burns is a multiple-time world champion in the BJJ department and he’s more than capable of securing a submission.

“My coach said that I showed only 30% of what I’ve got. Obviously, he wasn’t satisfied at all and I know what I’m capable of. This fight got the main event type of hype and I was excited and wanted to KO him. That was my mistake from the start. I should’ve worked cleaner. But I will learn from it. It’s a great lesson for me.”

Despite the fact that Chimaev’s coaches weren’t particularly thrilled with his performance, he certainly showed that he was a durable combatant. Going forward, it would be naïve to question Chimaev’s toughness heading into any fight.
