Kevin Durant Breaks Silence About Kyrie Irving Controversy: I’m not about to tell a grown-a** man what he can and can’t do

The Brooklyn Nets, who have struggled to maintain consistency this season, could not have benefited more from the return of Kyrie Irving. With a record of 7-9, they have remained below. Five hundred the whole campaign and are currently out of the playoff picture. Kevin Durant, a star for the Nets, thinks that Irving’s return should give the team a significant boost. Irving averages 26.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists for the Nets this year.

Kevin Durant: I’m not about to tell a grown-a** man what he can and can’t do

Irving has been on the receiving end of criticism after missing out on several games last season due to his vaccination status. Recently, he took to Twitter to boost an alleged anti-semitic movie and book, Hebrews to Negroes.

“I’m not a leader? What the f**k does that mean?” Kevin Durant told B/R.

“A lot of people say I’m not a leader because I didn’t tell Kyrie to get vaccinated. Come on. Or I didn’t condemn Kyrie for leaving the team, going out and living his life.

“I’m not about to tell a grown-as** man what he can and can’t do with his own life and dissect his views or how he thinks about s**t.

“We can have a conversation and exchange perspectives on how I feel about the topic and you feel about the topic, but everybody else doesn’t need to know or hear about our conversations because we’re grown-ass men. I don’t operate like that.

“I don’t need to show or tell everybody what I’m doing with my teammates so y’all can pump me up and say, ‘Yeah, KD, you’re the boss, you’re the leader.’

“These other [expletives] need that. I don’t. I don’t come to you and say, ‘Haynes, write this story about me.’ I don’t do that to anybody. But I come here and respect y’all. I talk to y’all like a real one, even after a blowout [loss].”

Durant On Kyrie Irving’s Return

“It’s exciting for everybody. I mean, we miss Ky. we miss his presence on the floor,” Kevin Durant told reporters after a team shootaround on November 17 via NetsDaily.

“I haven’t talked to him since we’ve been on the road trip about it, the last couple of days. But we’re looking forward to his return to the team. Definitely going to give us a much-needed spark.”

It should be noted Irving’s return on Sunday has yet to be confirmed by the Nets. Durant admitted he had been left in the dark about all the details concerning his suspension and pending return.

“I don’t know the details about anything that’s going on,” he added. “I should know, I guess, because I’m part of the team, but I’ve been totally focused on the road trip. Once we get back home, I’m sure that stuff will figure itself out. But hopefully, it’s soon.”
