‘Just Picture Looking Over Your Shoulder and Seeing Me There’- Robert Whittaker Pushes Back Against Israel Adesanya’s Suggestion for a Move Up to the 205-Pound Division

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker spoke to talkSPORT and pushed back against some advice he recently received from his rival Israel Adesanya. After going 0-2 against ‘The Last Stylebender’, Robert Whittaker was advised by Adesanya that a move up to the light heavyweight division would be his best path to ever fighting for UFC gold again.

However, Whittaker wasn’t having any of Israel Adesanya’s suggestions, and he clearly stated that he was not planning on going anywhere. Whittaker views himself as the most dangerous middleweight on the planet and he’s happy to continue defeating every contender who comes his way until he can fight Israel Adesanya once more.

“I’m the most dangerous person in the division and I threaten everyone, no-one is safe in this division and of course, he wants me to get out of there. I’m the hunter and I want it. He saw after that last fight that I wanted it and I’m coming for it and I’m not gonna stop until I get it.”

“It’s scary, just picture looking over your shoulder and seeing me there. I’m really happy where I am right now. I’m doing some good work in the middleweight division and the hunt to get the fight is fun in a way. I’m enjoying the idea of beating up everyone in front of me until they’re looking at a list with every name scratched off like, well, Rob’s left.”

Additionally, Robert Whittaker talked about how he if he did end up moving to the 205-pound division, he wouldn’t be coming back down.

“Who knows how fate is? Maybe I’ll give 205[Ibs] a go,” Whittaker said. “The only thing is though, 205 isn’t going to be an up-down system. If I go up to 205, that’s where I’m finishing up. I don’t do things half-cocked. I’ll do it properly. I’ll get massive and just get in there and throw bombs.” [h/t bjpenn.com]

Robert Whittaker has truly established himself as an all-time great middleweight fighter and he’s got a third title fight against Israel Adesanya as a sole motivator on his mind.
