Juan Soto Trade Might Not Take Place: Yankees & Padres Not On The Same Page
Numerous reports on Friday state that the Yankees and Padres are no longer discussing a deal for outfielder Juan Soto, at least not for now. The Blue Jays, who are in talks with the Padres about the 25-year-old phenom, might benefit from this.

Padres star outfielder Juan Soto is allegedly tradeable one year before he can test the open market as a free agency.

They won’t receive anywhere close to that return for Soto fifteen months later. However, dealing with Soto could be the Padres’ best option given the number of holes they need to fill, especially on the pitching staff, and the limited funds available to do so.
The New York Yankees are one of the clubs most said to be interested in a trade for Soto. According to insiders, the team has discussed a potential trade of the outfielder with the Padres, but it looks like they are still a long way from coming to a deal.
I’ve been so indifferent on the @Padres trading Juan Soto. Had to watch that 7th inning again… you can’t trade him man, you can’t do it. Give him the money… now #Soto #Padres pic.twitter.com/wYLDL1uPrv

According to reports, the Padres are requesting a deal that includes starting pitcher Michael King, pitching prospect Drew Thorpe, and four or five additional Yankees farm players, including Randy Vasquez and Jhony Brito, in addition to outfielder Trent Grisham.
The Padres are not reportedly interested in freshly graduating Yankees prospects Anthony Volpe and Jasson Dominguez, or in catcher Austin Wells or Venezuelan Gleyber Torres.

According to reports, the Padres think the Yankees are the only team behaving like a serious contender for Soto. For a one-year rental and a sizable sum of money, the Yankees are reportedly refusing to part with the extremely valuable King along with several other players (there is no expectation that Soto would sign a contract before to reaching free agency).
One baseball executive stated of the Padres, “If they think they can get a deal from another club like the one they’re asking for from the Yankees, they should do it right now.”

This is not to suggest that communication between the parties cannot resume. Both the Yankees and the Padres are driven to acquire Soto because they both need to reduce salaries.
