We’ll see. It’s kind of tough to forecast when you have a broken toe,’ he told reporters.
‘It’s going to be more about how it heals. Certainly if it’s a pain tolerance thing, Joe would be one of those guys that would be sooner than later. But obviously we have to evaluate how he’s feeling every day and we’ll see where we go.”
Musgrove signed a five-year, $100 million contract with the team after a strong 2022.

The Padres offence will undoubtedly be among the best in the league, but this loss severely hurts their starting lineup.
Their pitching staff quickly becomes quite small after Yu Darvish, Blake Snell, and Musgrove.
At best, Nick Martinez and Michael Wacha are subpar choices; at worst, they are downright awful.

Musgrove had a strong start to the 2022 season before a sharp decline, although he still produced 181 innings that were above average.
The Padres could be able to put together a rotation with openers and swing starters if he recovers pretty fast. The Padres could need to make another big deal if this develops into a more serious, long-lasting problem.
