Joe Burrow and Cincinnati Bengals Put on a Sorry Display as They Continue Their Winless Start to the Season

Only three teams since 2008 have missed the playoffs after losing the Super Bowl, and the Cincinnati Bengals at the moment are making it seem as though they will be the fourth team to add their name to this list. The Bengals started their season with a loss against the Steelers, a game that they lost in over time. In the second game week, Joe Burrow and his men took on the Dallas Cowboys, who were missing a few key players, including Dak Prescott, and still ended up on the losing side.

At the final whistle, the game finished 20-17 to the Cowboys. The Cowboys got off to an extremely fast start and scored the first touchdown through Noah Brown. America’s team built on a good first half by increasing their lead to a whopping 17-3 by the end of the second quarter, after which the Cincinnati Bengals came to life.

In the third quarter, Evan McPherson scored a 50 Yd field goal and a 46 Yd Field Goal to end the quarter at 9-17 in favor of the Cowboys. In the final quarter, Tee Higgins scored a touchdown to make it 17 points apiece, but it was Brett Maher who had the final say in the game as his 50 yd field goal gave the Cowboys a 20-17 win over the Bengals and their first win of the season.

Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals falter once again

On paper, this is a game the Cincinnati Bengals should have won with ease given the list of notable absentees in the Cowboys squad for this game. However, the Bengals’ offense remains a big issue and, to add to that, Burrow had an off night to put it lightly.

Burrow completed 24 of 36 passes for just 199 yards, and the Bengals allowed at least six sacks for the second consecutive week. What is worrying is that Burrow made a few calls that were blatant mistakes and led to him being sacked. For example, on a third down early in the game on Sunday, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made a call at the line of scrimmage to move an extra blocker right in front of him.

This meant that there was no one blocking Micah Parsons, and before Burrow could even turn his head and assess his options, he was sacked. If the Bengals are to make the postseason, a lot will have to change, especially offensively starting with Burrow.
