Jets To Sign Former Vikings RB Dalvin Cook Reportedly For 1-Year

The Jets have experienced one of the most noticeable adjustments of 2023, but clubs around the NFL see a lot of changes on both sides of the ball each offseason.

On Monday, they came to an agreement with Dalvin Cook, adding a few more watts of star power and more than a few additional dollops of controversy to what was already an intriguingly explosive lineup. Or, should we say, fascinatingly combustible?

Jets To Sign Former Vikings RB Dalvin Cook Reportedly For 1-Year

New York began the 2023 offseason hoping to finally get the quarterback boost it has been seeking for so long. Fortunately, Aaron Rodgers became available and expressed a desire to play with the Jets.

Cook comes to New York from Minnesota with four seasons in a row totalling 1,000 yards on the ground. He also carries the weight of conflicting allegations of domestic violence and a purported $1 million settlement offer to his victim. This is not a deal where you let him in via the back door. Without a question, he has a great skill; time will tell if he also turns out to be a great problem. All of that now belongs to the Jets.

Additionally, they now only have one option left to make all of this look slightly worthwhile: winning the Super Bowl.

Cook said during an interview on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” that the Jets “are right at the top of the list” and that the prospects of signing with them were “pretty high.” On July 30, Cook visited New York and saw a practice.

The former Florida State standout also expressed a desire in playing for the Miami Dolphins and claimed that doing so would be “a Cinderella story” for him.

He decided on the Jets instead. And it’s just another indication that New York is putting everything on the line to not only break the NFL’s 12-season postseason drought but also go far in the playoffs.

After welcoming Dalvin Cook on a visit at the end of July, the Jets signed him. Cook was cut by the Vikings in the first week of June, but he remained a free agent for two months before agreeing to join the Jets. He was patient, and New York continued to be interested in him because of his availability.

Cook has recorded 1,135 or more running yards in four straight seasons. Over that time, he has 46 touchdowns and four Pro Bowl appearances. Even as he nears the end of his NFL career, he still poses a three-down danger and will provide the Jets with strong depth.

According to ESPN, the Jets are now the only NFL team to add both a quarterback and a running back in the same offseason after the pair made it to the Pro Bowl in four of the previous five seasons.

The Jets, who finished 7-10 last year under coach Robert Saleh, will play the Buffalo Bills in their season opener on September 11.
