Jets Punter Thomas Morstead Tells An Inside Joke On When His Wife Called QB Aaron Rodgers By Wrong Name

Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” as usual on Tuesday. Recovering from an Achilles injury, the quarterback is a constant source of stories and this week includes an incident with Jets Punter Thomas Morstead.

Jets Punter Thomas Morstead Tells An Inside Joke On When His Wife Called QB Aaron Rodgers By Wrong Name

This week’s humorous tale concerned his punter colleague Thomas Morstead. Rodgers discussed meeting Morstead’s wife with McAfee and co-host A.J. Hawk. It seems that she addressed him as “Andrew” rather than “Aaron,” which caused him to wonder if she was aware of his identity.

“Thomas has become a good friend. His wife doesn’t really know my name. She called the wrong name when she met me, she called me ‘Andrew’. So I’m not sure who she thought I was. But that is a little joke between Thomas and I and Daphne. I don’t even know, I think her name is Diana or Daphne or something. Probably neither of those,” Rodgers said.

Morstead discussed the exchange on the podcast “Gang’s All Here” from The Post.

He claimed, “He came over after practice in training camp and he must have spent seven or eight minutes with my entire family.” “We’re wrapping up, ‘Hey nice to meet you,’ and my wife, who absolutely knows who Aaron Rodgers is, just says, ‘Nice to meet you, Andrew.’”

And Aaron look at her and just says, ‘Yeah sure, call me whatever you want.’ Walks off. Hilarious. Lauren tells me about it, she’s absolutely mortified. Aaron’s just waiting for me, and I see this big ol’ grin on his face … He said, ‘Tell Daphne the next time I see her, we’re going to laugh about this.’

So, obviously her name is Lauren, so he  asks how Lauren’s doing, he just says, ‘Hey, how’s my girl Daphne doing?’ and it’s become an inside joke.”

After the Jets defeated the Giants 13-10 in Week 8, Morstead was awarded the AFC special teams player of the week.

Pro Football Talk claims that out of his 11 punt returns, three of them were downed within the 5-yard line.

Morstead signed a contract with the Jets in September 2021, therefore this is his second spell with the organization. In addition, he has played for the Dolphins, Saints, and Falcons.
