Jets Need To Live Upto The Expectations Of Starting At Primetime

The New York Jets are gradually gaining respect among experts who follow the National Football League.

Three of the eight contributing analysts in a last month’s NFL.com piece promoting the League’s schedule release chose the Jets as the team that “should play in the MOST prime-time games in the 2023 season.”

Jets Need To Live Upto The Expectations Of Starting At Primetime

Only four teams were singled out by any of the eight experts, with Gang Green being one of them. Other than the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars, four other people chose the Super Bowl LVII champion Kansas City Chiefs.

When two quarterbacks are as well-known as Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers, you can be sure that the battle will be considered as a heavyweight contest. Although the Bills and Jets both possess great quarterback potential, Allen and Rodgers will command attention when they go onto the field on Monday night at MetLife Stadium.

What makes both signal callers noteworthy is that their previous performance against their opponent on Monday night was more of a mixed bag of outcomes than a hint of their propensity to control a game.

These expectations have not been disregarded by the Jets. The Jets have not been shy in outlining their objectives and expectations, whether it was Rodgers saying the club is among the select few that can win the Super Bowl or D.J. Reed saying the defense can compete with the Bears of 1985.

There is evidence that the Jets can walk the walk. Now, we’ll see if they can walk the walk against the Bills on Monday night.

The expectations are super high!

This week, head coach Robert Saleh stated that he had no issue with the bragging of his players. However, he recognized that the Jets now need to walk the words.

“I guess I look at it as, if you can’t keep our names out of your mouth then it must mean we are doing something good,” Saleh said. “With that said, we haven’t done anything. We still have football games to win. In the two years we have been here, we have won 11 of them, but I do think we have done a really nice job, we have made a lot of progress and we have positioned ourselves to have a good year, but we still have to go out and do it.”

In nine games versus Buffalo’s division opponent, the Jets, Allen has a career completion percentage against them of 62%, eight throwing touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He has an 81.3 lifetime passing rating versus the Jets. It should be noted that he has over 450 yards and six running touchdowns on over 70 runs, but more importantly, his career record versus New York is 6-3.

In just four games versus the Bills, Rodgers has thrown five touchdown passes against four interceptions while turning the ball over. His completion percentage against the Bills is just 54.6 percent, and his rating is only 75.4. The veteran has rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on 14 attempts, but he is only 2-2 in his career  versus Buffalo.

Just like the Lions’ season opener on Thursday night was for them, this game will serve as validation for the Jets. Detroit is the other club receiving a lot of preseason love despite not having had success in a very long time. The excitement was justified as the Lions defeated the Chiefs 21-20.
