Although there is no proof Austin was betting on NFL games, specifics about the bets he made are unknown. Austin bet on table games and other “non-NFL professional sports” from a legal account, according to a statement from his counsel. Austin is also completely assisting the league’s investigation.

Since the league monitored Austin’s internet gambling conduct, Austin has reportedly been the subject of an inquiry for some time. He was supposedly betting from the team’s facility at least occasionally.

Austin intends to challenge the expulsion.

Austin did not serve as the Jets’ head coach for their Thursday loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, though no explanation was provided at the time.

For practically all of his ten seasons in the NFL, Austin played for the Dallas Cowboys. The two-time Pro Bowler finished his career with 5,273 receiving yards and 37 touchdowns.

The 38-year-old has worked as an assistant for the league’s last four seasons. He spent the last two seasons with the Jets after serving as an offensive quality-control coach with the San Francisco 49ers in 2019 and ’20.

Calvin Ridley, a wide receiver with the Jaguars, was suspended for at least the 2022 season for placing bets on sporting events in 2021 while playing for the Atlanta Falcons. Ridley reportedly placed parlay wagers on a variety of sporting events, including Falcons and NFL games. He still has one year left to complete his suspension before he may ask for reinstatement.

From 2006 until 2015, Austin played in the NFL, primarily for the Dallas Cowboys. He began his career as an undrafted free agent and concluded with 361 receptions for 5,273 yards. He was given two Pro Bowl selections.

The San Francisco 49ers hired Austin, 38, as an offensive quality control coach in 2019. He joined the Jets’ coaching staff in 2021 under Robert Saleh.
