Jets Defence Makes A Powerful Comeback In A Win Against Eagles, Key CB Missing From The Lineup
Despite missing three of their top four cornerbacks, the Jet’s defence exhibited its superiority in a surprise 20-14 victory over the Eagles on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. The Jets knocked the Eagles (5-1) back with their second straight victory, improving their record to 3-3 heading into the bye week in a league without any unblemished teams.

The Jets’ defense played outstandingly the whole game, limiting the Eagles, who entered this game averaging 28.2 points per game, to only two touchdowns. Jalen Hurts was intercepted three times, a career-best, and a fumble was recovered by the defence, giving them a total of four takeaways.

The fact that D.J. Reed, who earlier this season declared that this Jets unit had the potential to surpass what the ’85 Bears’ defence did decades ago, wasn’t in uniform for the game due to his injury may have been the lone disappointment.
Reed received a lot of flak for that remark, but what you saw on Sunday was a defence reminiscent of the 1985 Bears, who forced four turnovers in the Jets’ crazy 20-14 comeback victory.

“It’s a big win,” the head coach said Robert Saleh. “They’re the NFC Champs. We took the AFC Champs to the wire, we beat Buffalo. Probably let one slip away with the Patriots, but it is what it is. Dallas game is what it is. I think we’ll always be in all these games. I think we can go toe-to-toe with anybody.”
“Obviously winning this game and going into the bye week is nice. We had a big win last year, too. We have to come out of the bye week with even more intent and more of that mindset, continue to find ways to get better so we can finish stronger.”

The Eagles were the only unbeaten club in the NFL at kickoff after the 49ers were upset by the Browns earlier in the day.
Of course, Philadelphia is the reigning NFC champion and Super Bowl runner-up.
Hurts, an all-purpose quarterback who injures opponents as much with his legs as with his arm, is the centrepiece of the Eagles’ potent attack.

The only real hope for the Jets to win this game was for their defence to perform at the level Reed had predicted for the ’85 Bears.
The issue on this particular day was that the Jets’ top two cornerbacks, Reed and Sauce Gardner, were both injured and unable to play.

The game was close thanks to massive contributions from Jermaine Johnson, C.J. Mosley, Quinnen Williams, Quincy Williams, Bryce Hall, Solomon Thomas and Adams. And that’s naming only a few of the Jets defensive players who played marvellously.
